Fritz Huschke von Hanstein

b Halle an der Saale (Germany), January 3, 1911 – d Stuttgart (Germany), January 5, 1996

The Porsche racing director of the time recognized Carel’s talent and arranged for him to become a works Porsche sportscar driver. Carel made his works debut in the 1958 Nürburgring 1000kms, sharing a 550 Spyder with Edgar Barth and Richard von Frankenberg. It became a huge success, the team finishing 6th overall and taking the 1500cc class win. This was followed by an 8th overall and second in the under-2000cc class at the Goodwood TT, this time sharing with Bino Heins.

Hanstein was a partner in Carel’s greatest sportscar success, which came early 1959 in the Sebring 12 Hrs. The Porsche director elected Carel to share his 356 and together they won the 1600cc GT class, finishing 11th overall.
