Porsche was absent from this Belgian Grand Prix because of a strike, which bought them some time to sort out their new car. So Carel was doing the honours and he did it in great fashion. After qualifying he found himself on the same starting row as Surtees and Clark and ahead of Baghetti and Brabham.

The race turned out to be a three-way battle between Lotus, BRM and Ferrari with Jim Clark winning his first World Championship Grand Prix. In the end Jack Brabham had to push his Lotus over the finish line in order to keep Carel from scoring his second World Championship point. Brabham thus was sixth, with Carel seventh.
