At the start of the new Grand Prix season Ecurie Maarsbergen got out in full force by entering no less than three cars for the Dutch Grand Prix. Apart from himself Carel also entered cars for Ben Pon and Rob Slotemaker. In the end Slotemaker didn’t participate and his entry was taken over by Wolfgang Seidel who borrowed an Emeryson from the factory for the occasion. It’s unclear whether the Seidel car was run by Maarsbergen in practice or only on paper. Carel qualified 14th and Pon 18th on the grid in a newer Porsche 787. During practice Carel put number 13 on his car as a joke, and to prove his lack of superstition.

Pon managed to pass his team leader on the first lap of his Formula 1 debut, but crashed severely as early as on lap two. He walked away unharmed but this would mean the end of Pon's very short Formula 1 career. Carel drove on and finished sixth, which earned him his first World Championship point.

Graham Hill was victorious on BRM, but only after Jim Clark encountered clutch trouble in his Lotus 25, the first Formula 1 car with a monocoque chassis, which proved to be a promise for the future.
