Finally the dominance that Ferrari had shown during the Grands Prix of Holland, Belgium, France and Britain was challenged and broken by the genius of Stirling Moss. The Ferraris of Hill and Trips just could not keep up with him, however hard they tried.
Carel didn’t play any role in the clash of these titans. He qualified a respectable 17th and again managed to finish the race. He was 14th of 17 finishers in his Ecurie Maarsbergen Porsche which, for the first time, was entirely painted in orange, the Dutch national racing colour.
